چکیده
This paper started with the explanation of conditions for using momentum equation and presentation actuator disc theory. Focusing on flow model used in disk theory, both Froude-Rankine theorem Betz’s law have been examined. It has found that is not justified because a stream-tube as control volume does really exist (pseudo stream-tube). The also an unfounded velocity (v2) to connect thrust total power loss. Two flaws identified law. First, use unjustified incorrect totally violates condition determining equation. Second, from misinterpreted volumetric rate through disc. These two main lead diverse computational contradictions paradoxes, particularly when considering case impermeable circular become evident applied rectangular plate infinite length. possible solution presented. includes additional consideration energy dissipation downstream disc, similar method calculate Borda-Carnot shock

Conceptual Design of Floating Wind Turbines
The need for different numerical models with varying degrees of simplification for the conceptual design of a floating offshore wind turbine is the focus of this paper. While parts on the component level can be designed apart from the others the overall dynamics on the system level have to be assessed from the beginning. Starting with very simple models and identifying the significant contribut...

This report presents a survey on generator concepts and power electronic concepts for wind turbines. The report is aimed as a tool for decision-makers and development people with respect to wind turbine manufactures, utilities, and independent system operators as well as manufactures of generators and power electronics. The survey is focused on the electric development of wind turbines and it y...
متن کاملReaching the betz limit experimentally and numerically
The Betz theory expresses that no horizontal axis wind turbine can extract more than 16/27 (59.3%) of the kinetic energy of the wind. The factor 16/27 (0.593) is known as the Betz limit. Horizontal Axis wind turbine designers try to improve the power performance to reach the Betz limit. Modern operational wind turbines achieve at peak 75% to 80% of the Betz limit. In 1919, Albert Betz used an a...
متن کاملAccuracy of the actuator disc-RANS approach for predicting the performance and wake of tidal turbines.
The actuator disc-RANS model has widely been used in wind and tidal energy to predict the wake of a horizontal axis turbine. The model is appropriate where large-scale effects of the turbine on a flow are of interest, for example, when considering environmental impacts, or arrays of devices. The accuracy of the model for modelling the wake of tidal stream turbines has not been demonstrated, and...
متن کاملVirtual Wind Speed Sensor for Wind Turbines
A data-driven approach for development of a virtual wind-speed sensor for wind turbines is presented. The virtual wind-speed sensor is built from historical wind-farm data by data-mining algorithms. Four different data-mining algorithms are used to develop models using wind-speed data collected by anemometers of various wind turbines on a wind farm. The computational results produced by differe...
